Apr Stage 1 vs 1997 Camaro SS

My buddy owns a 97 camaro ss. I believe its the 35th anniversary edition so it did come with an upgraded exhaust which he opted for at the time. It sounds mean and is honestly a little intimidating. Anyway, hes been giving me a hard time about my gti since its an import and all that. Well, I decided to shut him up today. Although, I had my doubts about what my car could do against his, I gave it all it had and came out ahead by a about half a car length.

We started from a roll of about 25-30 mph. I was surprised at how well my car pulled against his massive V8.......But by the time we hit 100 i had about a half a car length on him and decided to let off. Needless to say he has been humbled.

I should also add that i also have an autotech intake...not that it makes much of a difference.

The 35th Anniversary was 2002. And they look like this. :D

They did make a 30th anniversary in 1997 (White with orange rally stripes and houndstooth interior.)

Some interesting info; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Camaro_(fourth_generation)#1997

The 30th Anniversary SSs are pretty damn rare, and SLP optioned some with 330HP LT4s.

Might be a driver gap here (sounds like your friend might just be one of those guys "Big V8!! Me go FAST!!!!")...

That Camaro is so repulsive that it actually goes full circle and becomes cool again in an ironic way--kitsch. Some loud, obnoxious poor bastard thinks this car is genuinely rad....... I think its a good thing not everyone has a sense of taste.

Sit in one and you soon realize that the exterior is quite pleasant in comparison. Acres of cheap, hard plastic and vinyl surfaces, poor ergonomics and crappy unsupported seats. These were big, hairy chested cars with thirsty, inefficient, under-performing engines. It was cars like this that almost killed the General.

Almost?? GM is dead in my book. They failed, and it is only by crony capitalism (aka, fake capitalism) that they live.

That car is really hideous, glad you put it down.

I had a 97 Z28 back in the day. It was slow as hell. Made something like 230hp with a cat-back, intake, and "tune". Now when I used the nitrous... it was still slow.
