Ready to race!
So last night over here on Long Island we had a "Tornado Warning." Basically just a lot of wind and rain.

If you don't want to here me ramble, skip to the pictures.

So I'm out about 25 min from home at a business meeting. My buddy drove his car to my house and we car pooled. The whole way home there's rain coming down side ways, debris in the streets, and obviously large puddles. My VW was doing fine the whole way. Less than a half mile away from my house my buddy and I come across a puddle that stretches down about 25-35ft of street to the stop sign to turn onto my block. We come to a dead stop and contemplate what to do. I decided to go for it considering we'd been doing fine the whole night and my Dub has endured this exact puddle before during other rain storms. So I slowly accelerate to no more than 15-20mph. About 3/4 of the way to the stop sign my car stalled...
Called the cops and told them I was stuck in the water. They asked if I was trapped in the car and I replied with I'm not sure how high the water is and I don't wanna let in water. So it escalated quickly to them calling the Fire Dept and telling them "I was trapped in a car on fire?" 2 min later, 3 cop cars show up and sit 15ft back at the edge of the water. A woman in a Jag drove past them and stalled out right behind me. What she was thinking, idk. A couple seconds later the Fire Dept showed up. 5 firemen walked up to my car and told me I could get out without letting water in. So in slacks and a button down shirt I stepped out of my car into the flooded street. The fire dept "escorted me to safety" near the cops and then left. They basically came out for no reason. Felt bad for wasting their time. Then the cops filed a report. Tow truck and insurance was called. I went back in the water and pushed my car out of it along with the other woman's Jag. Tow Truck lifted my car to my house.
This morning I got the Dub lifted again to my Dads shop to be diagnosed in the morning. Not VW for fear of voiding my warranty. Hopefully minor water damage and insurance will cover the repairs. In the meantime, my insurance is covering a rent a car. Ill be cruising in a 2013 Ford Escape SEL for the next couple weeks at least.

Ive left out some detail due to me telling this story over and over since its happened. Thought Id share with you guys. Some pics below

OOOOOOOOOOOOK then. I'd be curious to see what happens here. This will have to be an insurance claim and not a warranty claim.

Figured insurance, Ill update this thread tomorrow with the total damage report.

You drove through some pretty deep water. I wouldn't of risked it. Rookie mistake.
Water didn't seem that deep. Plus I was driving down the middle of the road where it was highest. But yes, my mistake. =/

And now your resale is shot to hell. FLOOD VEHICLE stamped all over the carfox......
Hey, we don't what will happen for sure yet. Plus, Its a lease >.<

Probably would have made it at a crawl. Always go as slow as possible in potentially deep water

Remove the Carbonio intake if you can. Correct me if wrong, but it lacks the bypass for rainwater that the oem intake utilizes to reduce the chance of aspirating liquid water into the motor. The adjuster may not know what they're looking at, but it they know car mods they could pin this on you. All things considered, it was driven in water so either way you're at fault. Sorry to hear this story, I hope you end up all good.

So it hydrolocked.. When you said "Flooded" I was expecting water in the cabin
Well ya, engine could be flooded is what I meant. Sorry for the misinterpretation.

See this is the part I was thinking about. With this car do I want to go slow to prevent water from going under the car and possibly into the splash guard. Or crawl to prevent water from splashing into the intake?

I chose to go slow instead of crawl and the splash wiggled my front plate a little, Then when a Jeep blew past me while I was on the phone with the operator, the wave he created took my plate off. At least that's what I'm guessing because the bracket was completely intact but my plate was missing. I actually found the lady in the Jag's front plate while looking for mine.

Shit I've had so much going on this past day I didn't even think of that happening.

Here in Ft Lauderdale we get some serious rain and it floods from time to time, but from looking at the water line on your car I've driven in a similar situation here, but without stalling. I heard the water clapping under my floor boards it was so bad, but all i could think of as I was driving was, "don't get any water in the carbonio, because it has no drain valve!!!" SO I idled the whole way to make sure no water went above the front bumper.

Sorry to hear about the situation, Good luck!
