Hopefully this isn't a repost... but kinda gives an idea of what the MKVI chassis is capable of...
Athough the Evo had the fastest lap times,
Both the Golf R and Scirroco R had times that where faster than the STI... maybe the advantage was because of the DSG.
Also consider that although the Scirroco R was front wheel drive (like our GTI's)... the laptimes where pretty much identical to the times of the all wheel drive Golf R... interesting...

This implies that the MKVI chassis in general is pretty well balanced... the scirocco seems to be a modified version of that chassis...
With the right modifications to engine, suspension, and brakes, the GTI would be able to keep up with EvoX's and STI's on a racetrack...
