Ready to race!
So, Saturday the 27th of April, the heavens opened and released 7 inches of rain in an hour.. I've never seen so much rain fall from the sky other than in hurricane type weather. It had been drizzling all day, but the amount of rain that started coming down while I was on my way home was astronomical. I was coming off a highway and turned onto a road that leads to my house when I drove through, what looked like a puddle, turned out to be about a foot deep. A huge dip in the road had been collecting water all day and I was completely unaware of the danger that I was moving into. I drove into the water and it covered my hood briefly, then car immediately stalled. Once I pushed my self through the water and up onto the other side of this small lake, my car was steaming and wouldn't crank. I only tried to turn the engine once and figured I better stop. fast forward about 10 minutes and my dad shows up to help me push my car into someones drive way, keep in mind that the rain hasn't stopped. A few hours later we go back to the house where we left my car and the entire street is flooded.. my dads huge dodge ram could barely make it through the amount of water on the road. luckily my car was about 6 inches away from the rising water in the driveway.
The next morning we return to sunny skies and dry roads.. perfect right.... we push my car out of the drive and onto the street and the battery is dead now :| so we hook up the cables and leave it on the battery to charge while we inspect the engine for water. Oh man, so much water. so very much water. We pull the coilpacks and get the spark plugs out and try turning the engine.. the water comes shooting out of the cylinders like four small geysers.. GREAT! at this point once I see the water come out, I was a little relieved, but at the same time incredibly annoyed and within moments of causing another 7 inches with my tears. with about 4 or 5 attempts at getting the engine to fire and 4 or 5 more coilpack+spark plug removals the engine finally clears enough water out to fire.. It doesn't fire smoothly, but it fires. The engine starts getting hot and starts boiling excess water off and steam starts coming out of my exhaust and within the engine bay.. we let the car sit there for about 30 minutes until the steam that was coming out of the exhaust started dying down. After all that was done and the car was able to limp forward, we took it immediately to get the oil changed. Only about 5 minutes down the road, but in this case 15, we got it to my buddies dad who changed the oil for us. With that oil change it was like we used a defibrillator on the car and it sounded and ran 95% better. but that 5% still caused what would happen next.
I drove the car around for about an hour-ish.. trying to let the car boil off any water still remaining. No boosting, no hard accelerating.. just simple driving, trying to keep the engine running and warm. Towards that last 5 minutes of my hour long drive, the car shudders and lurches forward while I'm driving. CHECK ENGINE NOW! illuminates my dash and the EPC lights up. So I drive home in limp mode, barely any power in the car whatsoever. Once I get home I shut the car off and try to start it again... nothing. car is completely dead. it tries to crank but nothing.. just low RPMs then shudders then dies.
The following morning I get my car towed.. even though I requested a flatbed, they show up with a regular old tow truck. the tow truck driver takes it to a auto specialist that I usually get work done with. the driver starts reversing with my car on the back of his truck and my exhaust tip gets caught on the ramp that goes into the shops drive. I heard a loud scrape and a popping sound and the truck finally pushes my car into their shop.. I go to the back of my car to see the right side of my 3k mile old exhaust bent inwards with the lower black surround popped out of place. kick me while I'm down..
and now the end of my story.. my car is currently sitting in a shop waiting to hear the verdict.. indeed this is a very sad time for me, years of work.. quite literally, washed away.
