How long does the install typically take? My local installer wants to charge me for 3hrs of labor.

A careful and competent installer may take up to one hour. A bill for three hours is robbery.

Many installers don't charge labour at all.

I would stay away from that particular installer...not being honest.

where are you located? i went to 034motorsports in fremont...labor took about 1.5hrs

That's beyond absurd. Run as fast as you can away from whoever quoted you that. Don't even bother trying to negotiate with them. Install only takes about an hour and many places don't charge any labor (i didn't pay any labor fees).

Wow, APR needs to get on their DFW area dealers. One quoted me 3-4 hours and $75 labor, the other said they'd need to pull the ECU and send it to APR! They're the only ones around.

Well, $75 for labor is not so bad. That's actually pretty good, unless you can find a reputable shop who does not charge the labor fee (we have some good options in the northeast). $75 dollars only sounds like they are charging you for one hour of labor. Maybe the 3-4 hours is just because they are busy and can't work on your car right away?

As for pulling the ECU and sending it to APR, I believe almost all of the ECUs can be flash benched, but in the past some of the newer ones did need to be sent to APR.

Good to know, hopefully it wouldn't take that long if I had an appointment.

Yea im gonna run from that shop. They're an audi specialist shop so it may justify the robbery. As far as local installers my other option is giac but i wanna stay apr b/c thats what most of you guys have.

Yea perhaps i will consider a giac tune. I do like the giac app. I'll check around and see whos the cheapest.

DFW area APR Dealer

TexAG, have you called Dubsquare in Arlington? I spoke with someone there in April about doing a stage 1 ECU upgrade. He sounded very knowledgable. The owner there was the lead tech at Autobahn VW. When I'm ready, I will use them for my car.

Waiting patiently for APR sale. Will buy Intercooler and actually install it this time! Last time I got one I got rid of the car before I could install it and sold the brand new intercooler for a loss

We've got the same prediction, but I believe the start date is actually the first Monday after or on the first day of Summer (officially, The First Day of Summer (Summer Solstice) is on Wednesday, June 20, 2012).
