Rns 510 w/o dyna audio coding request

Hey all, quick overview: installed an rns 510 unit with functioning gps, sirius and am/fm and coded with out error codes, but have no sound. If anybody has an rns 510 without dyna audio to please post their coding for comparison. Or, if anybody has any thoughts as to why this is happening?

So I got my replacement version G unit, and lo and behold it worked right out of the box, BT (have 9W7 factory installed), sound, navi the works. Quick code change in vcds to clear codes and everything functions great. I don't want to make a sweeping statement about all revision H's, but in my particular case, version H is not compatible (2011 MY golf) and perhaps any other golfs as well. For those making the switch, insist on a G unit, not an H unit as detailed in post #5 below, it was looking for a speaker system set up that is not there, at least not in my golf.

Look in adaptation. Make sure you select for not having dyna audio.

Update: I tried the coding gtiforme posted but to no avail. Comparing a byte to byte of the new RNS (version H) to the old RCD it looks like that byte's 2 and 4 while having the same coding (04 and 04) they have a different descriptor in the drop down.

RCD:

Byte 2 - 04 "4 Speaker Channels (2 passive speakers each front and rear)
Byte 4 - 04 "Treble speaker monitoring for front & rear speakers active

RNS:

Byte 2 - 04 "4 Speaker Channels (Front and Rear)
Byte 4 - 04 "Speaker Monitoring: Front and Rear active

And the new coding I'm using was given to me by Dana from Ross-Tech which as far as I can tell is fine since no error codes are given. I dropped the old RCD back into the car to double check audio is okay and as soon as I plugged it in and turned car on sound was working :iono:

Would like to point out that I bought the RNS from mfd3.com and Scott has been very helpful. The listing there was for "G" unit and when I received an "H" unit I figured newer the better and thought nothing of it. But now I (and Dana) are left to conclude that the unit must be faulty. The only other option I can think is that the version "H" is not compatible with my Golf and perhaps all others (2011 TDI, factory RCD, bluetooth, full MFD and MFSW).

Anybody have any thoughts? I am on the verge of putting through my warranty claim with Scott for a version G and try my luck on that.

First, it's Dynaudio. It's a brand name. It's not dyna audio. Sheesh...

With that out of the way, on the RNS there should be a byte that says something that references premium sound or an amp or something to that effect. It's been a while since I had an RNS510 but it's possible that it's still coded for connection to the Dyn amp. If that's the case and if the Dyn system uses optical to transfer signal (I think it does but I haven't seen the schematic to verify) that would explain why you have no sound. My last 510 had a drop-down box for one of the bytes with different system options.

I know asking for screen shots for every byte is a lot to ask but if you see something that might be it go ahead and post it and I'll take a look at it.

Thank you so much :thumbsup: I have captures from every byte except 6 as I think it always seems to be 00 whwnever I look at others' codes. The coding in the captures may not be correct, so the coding that is actually on my unit is as follows:

Ok,
Byte 0 looks good.
Byte 1 should be 00 as yours is. That's the basic just running the HU setup. You can try 01 as well.
Byte 2 looks good
Byte 3 looks good
Byte 4 You can try this as "00 Not Coded" as well as the default 04. All it does is have the ECU look and see if the speakers are there. If not it generates a soft code. No lights or anything.
Byte 5 looks good
Byte 7 uncheck bit 2 to turn off the speed lockout for destination input. Also, bit 4-5 will let you change the color of the display. The options are red, silver, or black. You have to reset after this change to see the difference. It's pretty cool since I hate the silver. I need to look and see if the RCD510 can make this change.
Byte 8 looks good
Byte 9 leave it blank unless you install the back-up camera.

I'll look and see how my RCD510 is coded and see if it helps.

I'm guessing the rns510 is giving out a low audio signal expecting to be passed through the amp.

It would still be audible though. It would be VERY quiet, but it would make SOME sound.

I am having similar issues, RNS 510 works perfectly in all aspects but no audio, no sound. I have no Code Faults (ross-tech cable). Did you ever figure out what was the missing key for sound? Mine is a 2013 GTI, no amp.
