[US-Eastern PA] 2013 GTI - 123,000 Miles - Drivers Edition DSG --- Can you help me determine it's value?

Hello all,

Though I wish I could keep it, I have another vehicle being built and on it's way here come April and only have so much garage space. As such, the GTI will have to find a new home. While it might just be traded in to a dealership, I figured I'd try to determine what it might be valued at in terms of a private sale. Ideally to someone with knowledge of these vehicles who can go onto enjoy it in their own way or resolve known issues on their own accord without overspending on the vehicle itself.

So, what's your opinion on what you feel the vehicle might be worth in a private sale scenario with all cards (blemishes, bruises) on the table?

2013 Volkswagen GTI
  • 4/5 Door Model
  • Automatic (DSG)
  • Drivers Edition Trim Level
  • 122,XXX Miles (will go up occasionally as it's driven on short drives once or twice a week)
  • Deep Black Pearl Metallic Paint
  • 18" Laguna/Watkins Glen Wheels with Firehawk Indy 500 Tires
    • Spare Black (Plastidip/Spray Can - Second Owner) 17 inch MK5 Jetta Wheels w/ Blizzak WS90(?) Tires
Daily Driver - Minor dents, scrapes, chips, bruises, etc. One larger (1x1 inch) dent in passenger side pillar. 1 larger scratch on front bumper bottom passenger side corner. Laguna/Watkins Glen wheels have various levels of curb rashing and or scrapes/scratches.

Known Issues:
  • Headliner sag over rear dome light.
  • P2015 Engine Code/CEL - Occurred at 120,500 so Volkswagen was not able to support with parts warranty for known-defect (120,000). I attempted to use the ECS bracket part as a potential fix as my instance of the issue does not cause the vehicle to go into limp mode and may very well be the sensor sweep position being read improperly, though I'm not certain. This did not resolve the CEL issue, but I cannot observe any noticeable difference in the vehicles operation or performance since the issue occurred.
Attached are a few photos of the vehicle prior to winter. Currently it has the aforementioned snow wheels & tires on it, but has seen little road time minus a few trips back and forth to the office.

Any insight you all could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

It's a 2013 car so it has the updated tensioner.
Does it have the updated water pump?
Have the timing chains been replaced at all? (The chains stretch over long periods of time, and at 120k miles the next owner might want to consider throwing in new chains.
Ηas the DSG been serviced? 120k service should have been recent
p2015 can be fixed with a new manifold if whatever you did didn't fix it - its an easy job. manifold
If you asked me how to sell it, I'd put it on facebook marketplace for ~8.5k and see if you get any bites.

Hey there Aspro,
I'm not certain about the water pump. Is this a factory updated water pump that was installed at time of manufacturing on some vehicles during 2013? And, if so, can I identify that in any way?
Timing chains have not been replaced to my knowledge, at least not during my ownership (since 80,000) - I did perform the DSG service at around the 100,000 mark.
As for the P2015, I'll do a bit more research. From what I understood the job of swapping out the entire intake manifold could be a bit difficult. I'll do some more digging on that to see if it's something worth calculating the cost in parts and labor. \

For clarity, when you say $8500.00, do you mean in the event that the P2015 is fixed or as it sits?

Thanks for the help! It's greatly appreciated.

8.5k was my rough estimate based on what I knew. If all the "fault points" (tensioner, chains, water pump) have been fixed and there's a nice stack of maintenance records, then the value could jump to ~9000/9500.

The water pump is 'from my understanding' and aluminum upgrade over the plastic factory one. They fail at around ~60k miles. Plenty of resources on the forums and with just google search talking about it, but I couldn't find anything about later model year cars having the upgraded one (like the timing chain tensioner).

If you have obd11, you can check how much your timing chain has been stretched. Video. The chain is definitely a harder job, and it took me ~3 days to do it in my garage. A shop will quote you four figures easily, but if you're looking to sell it, don't even bother with worrying about this, let the new owner worry.

The intake manifold isn't hard as long as you have a day open for it and good set of tools. There should be videos online of how to do it.
