What did you do to your MK6 2.5 today?

Battery went south on me over the weekend. Replaced it with an AMG battery. We'll see how that works out.
Your new Golf is a 2014, I hope you reset the Battery Charging using VagCom or OBD Eleven otherwise the charging system will under charge the new battery, coz it still thinks its charging an old battery with less capacity. Since its prolly not a Varta Battery with a code; I think, you just need to change the last character in the code to trick the system that its a new battery to reset the charging curve.

I was under the impression reprogramming is only necessary on mk7+ due to the start/stop feature. I have not been able to find any info on coding a mk6, just the mk7. I think the coding is on the newer cars. The battery that was in my car when I bought it was a bosch and I see nothing about battery coding in VCDS for my car.

From another forum

"Mk6 Golf (and the variant) don't support battery registration,....."

After hours of looking I believe this is correct (in the US anyway). From everything I have read the battery management system was mainly for start/stop tech. Unless someone can chime in that they registered a battery on a US model Mk6 I am closing the book on this in my mind.

You maybe correct, my Golf doesn't require coding, I have never actually done it. The alternator we have is the old type with only 2 wires. I believe the cars with more than two wires going to the alternator requires the coding, the extra wire(s) control the charging.

With the freezing weather here, we got the dreaded squeeking/squealing from the torn PCV diaphragm, I posted a short Youtube video of it HERE

The squeal started intermitent, then over days got worst and eventually was all the time, resulted in a Check Engine Light with P2187 code. In the video you can see that vacuum is present at the weeping hole on the PCV cover as it pulls on the shin on my finger. When I remove the oil dip stick the squeal disappears as the removal removes the vacuum from the PCV so air is no longer being drawn trough the tear in the PCV Diaphragm. At this time P2187 is currently displayed with the Check Engine Light (CEL) which results in the loping idle, when I clear the P2187 Code and the CEL the Idle improves and smooths out.

BTW the idle is a lot noisier than normal coz the Dual Mass Flywheel was changed to a Single Mass Flywheel, any idle problem gets magnified.

Follow up to my last Post:

We replaced the PCV with THIS KIT made by FEBi. (Febi 71919PS)

IMO The Dorman 917-064 PCV Diaphragm Repair Kit, the rubber diaphragm is a bit smaller in diameter for a good seal with the cover.

Had a bunch of work done by a buddy when I was laid up. Wheel bearings - both front. Control arms + ball joints. Drivers tie rod. Strut mounts and bearings - front(bad drivers side bearing). Endlinks - front and an alignment. Oil change + winter setup on. Car's at 268,000km and strong. I'll do the rear end bearings etc in the spring. Hope everyone had a great holiday!

Did a few things today. I got some new wheels for the summer, off a mk7.5 GTI; installed new H7 HID bulbs for the headlight, had to take off the front bumper, that was a pain in the ass. A new front lip is also on the way.😁
