The ultimate goal of this car is to try and stay as stealth mode as possible, but still be a capable track vehicle. I think I'm 'set' for engine work for now, and I'm going to take it easy until I get wheels, and then track it once or twice before moving on to suspension stuff. The brakes I'm looking into figuring out a set I can swap out for track day use.

How do you like the Clear Bra so far? Can you tell that it is on the car? What was the cost? I am considering doing on mine. I am starting to get way to many chips.

The APR stage I is not out yet for the 2011. I wish it was because the wait is killing me. Revo announced that they are releasing theirs Feb 1st.

Can you get the front bumper fixed by VWoA??

Winn VW in Newark, CA (yes, they're an authorized APR dealer) says they can do it - I was skeptical myself, but I'll get back to you on Saturday with (hopefully) good news.

The Clear Bra is awesome - I can't really tell it's on the car, especially with the seams hidden from view for the most part, especially with the full wrap - it's only if you're looking very closely at specific spots do you see any seams where the film ends. Full front fenders, full hood, headlights, side mirrors, and trunk lip (top of the rear bumper) cost me $1100 cash. The front bumper's gonna run me $400.

They've escalated the issue to a regional customer care person - they're researching the applicable CA vehicle laws - I've told them of my workarounds for the display of a front plate, we'll see what happens, will update tomorrow.

I don't think so. There are a half dozen threads on this on this forum alone. You either didn't tell the VW dealer it is a 2011 (not a 2010) or I wouldn't let them touch the car as they don't know what they are talking about.

One thing for sure: you are NOT getting an APR (or any type) of flash on Saturday. On Feb 1, you may be able to get a Revo flash.

i do gotta agree.. youre gonna let them do all that work, pull out your ECU.. risking damage every time that is done to either parts or the ECU, then determine its the newer 2011 code which isnt cracked yet by APR's own admission. i wouldnt let them touch it and let someone else be the first guineu pig.

EDIT: Had posted on the phone, didn't have time to fully post my discussion with the dealership. When I scheduled the appointment, I told the guy I had a 2011 GTI, and that I wanted to confirm that they could flash the 2011. He said yes, that they were the same as flashing the 2010s. I had made the comment about APR commenting on a different encryption, but he said that they were the same and that I could get it done, which is why I had set up the appointment for Saturday. I'm going to call APR tomorrow to confirm that the 2011 flash program is not yet available, and then cancel the appointment that I made for Saturday.

I wish they thought before they made promises. You would just sit wasting your time at the dealership while they cracked open your ECU and then informed you that 'geez, I don't know what went wrong but we can't flash your car today'.

Go ahead and contact APR but take our word for it, THERE IS NO APR FLASH FOR THE 2011 GTI yet. Period.

NP, I was under the impression that the dealer might have known better - I was highly skeptical myself having done a good bit of research myself, but I figured I'd call and ask just for S&G, and they said they could do it.

Edit: Called APR, they'll let the dealer know what's up.

Edit 2: Dealer called me to let me know that APR had called them to say that the 2011 program isn't available yet. I didn't say anything about me being the one to call APR to confirm...

Looks like the estimate I got for filling in the holes in my front bumper = slightly over $1k. WTF?!

I'm gonna get a second quote.

they have to repaint the entire bumper and feather it in on the other parts if they do it right. but you can probably find a tad cheaper, for cheaper work.. i paid $700 to fix a 5" scratch on my BMW bumper.

holy crap! for scratch just do the mobile bumper repair people. i remember having a large scratch on my old car and it cost me like 250 to get it fixed. Lifetime warranty too!

Problem is it's not a scratch - 5 holes punched straight through the front bumper. I'm beginning to think I should just say screw it and take the $200 that VW is offering me and spend it elsewhere...

the front plate holder would cover it up real nicely, and cost you nothing.. since you wanted nothing drilled, youre already screwed. why you gonna spend all that money to fix it at this point? take $200 free dollars and be happy.

Blue tinted aspherical side mirrors installed - will take some pics tomorrow. Looks out of place with the rest of the car so dirty after the rain last weekend and these shiny new side mirrors though...
