lol so turns out its not the same rattle everyone else has . When I changed the stock exhaust out the position of the cat was moved and when all pieces where put together one of those metal strips (see the red circle) had what I thought was enough clearance, but apparently not. So needless to say the torque from going uphill made the pipe vibrate and hit that plate. I added some washers and spaced it out and bingo no more rattle. It was just weird that the rattle started a few weeks after I had replaced the stock exhaust.

P.S. - the picture is from AWE's website.

Sorry Dude, this isn´t the rattling what we hear. Our Noise comes from the Wastegate. See a few Sites before.

Right, and after reading this http://www.golfmk6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8045 the symptoms matched what i was hearing. i.e. rattling at low rpms on the uphill etc. so thats what i though it was originally. Then i read in that same thread, that some people found it to be their heatshield or something else. So i checked my shit found it to be something else and posted. So in short yes i thought it originally was the wastegate based on similar symptoms others where reporting, yes i did check other posts before and no i found it to be something different (like others posted in that thread). The original purpose of this thread was to see if anyone locally (San Diego) was having the same issue so that i might compare.

Well, I'm in san diego and I used to have it (you might have read about me and the heatshield thing), when I switched downpipes back and forth from usp to stock again the noise dissapeared, well one day i heard it, but it was very very quiet, at least compared to how it used to sound when i bought the car. Now that i installed another catless downpipe again i hear kind of the same noise but i'm not sure if its because im catless or if its that rattle. I'm leaning more towards the dp because that rattle used to be in a certain rpm range only and this one is not.

Oh yeah it was your post, and thanks for posting that up. Your post was what lead me to check my downpipe and heatshield and realize that it was not the wastegate. What Golfmaster failed to realize is that i posted my findings so that if there are any others in my position (and like you where with your heatshield) they might have other things they can troubleshoot before making up their minds that its the wastegate.

You're welcome but I still think the wastegate is making some noise, it's just not nearly as loud as it was at first. My issue with the heatshield happened when switched downpipes, the aftermarket one was in a different position and making contact, so I was hearing kind of a crushing aluminum foil sound everytime I gave it gas. After fixing that, the wastegate sound is still there but it doesn't bother me anymore. Hell, on many posts I even said I was sure I didn't have the wastegate sound anymore, and that's because I couldn't hear it, but the other day the street was very quiet and I paid close attention and I heard it a bit.

Yeah see, the sound i was hearing was a rattling metal noise which also caused some vibration so I was like wtf. And in that one forum some guy posted a youtube vid and the noise in that vid was very similar to what i was hearing. Its a bummer you can still hear it though after all the work you did replacing the downpipes etc.
