Ready to race!
Whats up folks! Just picked up a 2013 Carbon Steel R this week. Got a great deal through PenFed 4 years @ .74% interest with 2k under MSRP. Just sold my 07 GT3 and my 2010 K04 CW GTI will be for sale soon. I've got big plans for this car including APR Stage 3+ later this fall.

Already have a few parts on order including S3 Aluminum front spindles and some goodies for the interior.

I'll update this thread with all mods and what not and look forward to the discussions.

Later today I am going to start swapping a couple parts from the GTI to the R including the Unibrace XB and UB, Tyrol sport shifter bracket bushings and 42DD shifter linkage bushings. Pics to follow!

Installed the 42DD bushings. Much improved in the sloppiness of the stock rubber units. I also installed the Tyrol sport cable bracket solid bushings. I really don't think it makes that big of a difference. The rubber units are pretty firm and do not have much if any play in them. Overall a low cost mod though.

What are the added benefits of having the S3 spindles? And are they just direct bolt ons without any other modifications?

They are aluminum vs the cast iron spindles on the stock Golf R. This saves ~5 lbs of unsprung weight to improve handling.

Also the steering arm is shorter which improves the steering response.

Combine this with the Super Pro Aluminum control arms and a light weight brake setup like the Stoptech Trophy kit and you are dramatically improving the ability of the car.

on the same topic. If I chose the TT spindles I could've improved the geometry when lowering the car but that requires a lot more modifications like TT lower control arms which push the hub further out. This has forced some people to buy wider front fender to keep from rubbing. So to avoid that snowball effect, I decided to stick with the S3 spindles.
