Clutch pedal pulsating/vibrating

I guys/gals.

When I first had the car back in January 2010 I noticed if you hold your foot lightly on the clutch pedal it pulsates but it appears slightly less than engine speed, I'm presuming this is the dual mass flywheel.

In March I took it back to the dealer to be checked. They said it was normal on that engine because it has a dual mass flywheel. I wasn't happy so they fitted a new clutch under warranty, it still pulsates.

I went back to the dealers last week over this problem. Do you have a GTD demo available? I went out with the salesman to check it out. If you rest your foot on the clutch it feels normal no pulsating/vibration. We went over to my car and he started up and felt the clutch. Yes it does vibrate but you are better of talking to the service reception as they can advice you better.

I talked to service and they said I would have to book it in so the technician can check it out. I took it back this morning for the check. I was with him when he checked my car. Yes that normal its the dual mass flywheel that does that. Well how come your demo GTD doesn't do it? I don't know it should do. He took it to the workshop to plug in the VAG-COM and no faults were found. The service receptionist said see how it goes and if it gets any worse bring it back and they will investigate some more.

I have a friend at work who has a 2.0 TDI (140) and is doesn't do it. We also have a student with a 2.0 TDI (170) and his doesn't do it.

Are there any diesel Golf owners on here either 140PS or 170PS its the same engine that their clutch pedal pulsates/vibrates?

I'm still not happy, I'm going to see about contacting VW to see what they say.

Cheers. ;)

No pulsating clutch issues here.
Initially the pedal used to pulsate back and forth slightly and vibrate. After the clutch was fitted it just vibrates. ;)

I think we all get a slight clutch vibration when slightly engaged I've had the same thing with bmws I've driven.

Yeah I get a mild vibration when close to engaging, but I assumed it was normal. I only feel it if I'm riding the clutch, so I assumed it served as some sort of warning.

In other words, I don't feel the vibration (slight in and out of the pedal) when I'm shifting as I should. But if I intentionally press in on the clutch a bit while in gear, it's noticeable.

yes vibration is normal, but when he compares it back to back to a similar car and there is an obvious difference between the two, something isn't right.

Its not a vibration when engaging or disengaging the clutch its a matter of feeling a vibratation while you rest your foot on the clutch pedal.

I never ride the clutch thats just bad driving.

I went back to the dealer on Wednesday to have it checked. The technician sat in the car and started it up. Yes that normal its the dual mass flywheel that does that. Let me know how it goes. I've posted some threads about this before and everyone says they don't feel it. I feel it pretty strong, when I get to work after my 30 mile commute I can still feel the phantom vibrations on my left foot. It does feel as if something is rotating but not at the engine speed, it's slower. I took it to the dealer and the technician, the service rep and the manager drove it, they said maybe i'm too sensitive.. fuck that, none of my old cars felt that way! Now my engine has been taken apart along with the transmission (for another issue), I'll see if when they put it back in the vibration goes away. I feel this if I barely rest my foot in the pedal, when enganging, when letting out, but it's most noticeable as somebody said when riding the clutch, not that I do, but if you do it on purpose you'll see how it's just an unacceptable vibration. But then again, the dealer thinks I'm crazyyyy

I understand. It is definitely a matter of preference. I'm leaning toward a manual for the R20 *when* it arrives. :)

Where have you posted these other threads chapusin?

Yes it does appear to be vibrating at less that engine speed. Distance makes no difference you can feel it as soon as you start the engine.

I've posted the same question on another VW forum that I use very regular. Its strange that some user have this vibration and some don't. There isn't must point in posting the link as for some strange reason you have to join the forum before you can read anything. If you have joined this forum then ok.

I do appreciate your input guys. ;)

Okay, as far as simply resting my foot on the clutch petal (remaining in the dead zone) I don't get any vibration... only when I press in further.

Good luck with the dealership!
