Ok I decided to go ahead and order the Golf R. My good friend at our local dealer called me yesterday after leaving a teleconference with VW America. So he told me that VW plans to initially send 3 Golf R's to dealers around the country. For that reason, he told me that I needed to act fast if I wanted one. I as this was a big decision to make I had call him back.
One of the main things that I was fighting with is the fact that APR stage 3 for the TSI is better that stage 3 for the FSI. by 30+ tourqes or so. Still I felt that AWD Would be something I could use to apply Power to the road in a greater variety of scenarios than with my stage 1 2010 GTI.
I called him back and decided to order the below setup:
Base Price: $32,500
Options: 9 speaker dyn-audio, sunroof, KESSY, RNS-315(fml, hopefully I can switch this with a 510) I asked him to let me know if any additional option became available.(hopefully dynamic suspension or optical parking system)
He told me that he would put in the order and call me back with a build date, final price , etc. As he was instructed to do, he told me to expect delivery circa march 2012 which is my b-day.
I'm guessing that other dealers received the same instructions; So if you're intrested in the golf R, I suggest you call up your local dealers.
Financially I know getting the R after having a GTI for 2 years doesn't make much since but I plan on keeping the Golf R for a very long time.
