I also own a 2011 5.0 and previously owned a 335xi.

I say go with the Mustang, it has a lot more character, and it's a lot more fun (read: affordable) to mod than any N54/N55 engined beast. The 'stang doesn't handle like the BMW (stock, at least), nor is the interior as high quality, but in every other respect I prefer the 5.0.

Also, get it in my color, grabber blue...the women love love love it.

you're right... it handles better as proven on the track by the new 5.0's keeping up with M3's.

Man, we're still talking about this shit and that kid has already tossed the GTI and is banging some hot rich twins in his parent's summer home, 135i parked in the garage.. We lose.. haha.

It's a good handler, but keeping up with the M3 on the track doesn't necessarily mean it handles like one. It does a great job dialing out the rear axle, but the 3 series was on rails.

I'm not saying the 'stang is a bad handler at all, but as someone who's owned both, the Bimmer is still tops for sure.

That said, I have some Ford Racing shocks, struts and springs that are going on my 5.0 in the spring, and I'm sure that'll help make it even better.

Go with the 135i. I think it is a great car. The 5.0, while fast, isn't really that nice of a car in many other areas.

And don't listen to these guys about your parents buying you a nice car so young. They are just jealous. I hope that when I have kids I can buy them a 135i when they are 19. Its all relative.

Most parents don't buy their kids 135's at 19 because they can't afford to, not because they don't want to.

To some, buying a $2,000 car for their kid would be no different, relatively speaking, than buying a $40,000 car for their kid. It takes all kinds and you shouldn't be forced into feeling bad because you are fortunate enough to have successful parents.

It doesn't work out that way. It is never a direct exchange for cost of goods.

All that means is $150k in that country is comparable to $25k in the US. That means that a $50k income is comparable to a $300k income in that country as well. A $200k house is comparable to a $1.2M home there too.

Its all relative.

Use Europe or the UK as a concrete example of this;

GTI - From 25k GBP
GTI - From 24k USD

If one used a direct current conversion of appx. 1.5 GBP : USD they would see that it is vastly different than that. At that rate, 25k GBP would be comparable to 39k USD. And 24k USD would be 15k GBP.

Just assume that VW (or any company) prices their products relatively the same across markets. Excise taxes and whatnot may change things a bit but not a lot.

that's great... you're not the only one who understands global economics and currency exchange to please stop posting in depth analysis of everything. the GTI still costs >$100k and local salaries are NOT proportionally higher. so, no, it's not all relative. it's because singapore has insanely high import/car taxes in an attempt to limit the number of cars driving around on a tiny island.

You've owned both the new 5.0 GT and the E92 M3? because thats what Randy Pobst drove back to back and the review was quite impressive for the Mustang, while still "losing" to the M3.

Cant find the direct article real quick , but here's the vid review they did:

as for pure performance, you can't help but notice the 5.0GT is pretty much on par with the M3.

chipped you arnt ready for a 5.0, or rwd. seen the way you drive. you need to stick to fwd

Yeah, I've seen the video.

And I haven't owned an E92 M3, but I've owned an E90 335 and a new 5.0 GT, yes, so I do kind of know what I'm talking about here. I actually sold the 335 for the 5.0, so I'm not trying to disparage my own car, but the Mustang just does not handle like the BMW, whether or not it can make it around a track just as fast is irrelevant for this discussion.

The steering isn't as precise, the brakes aren't as good, and the grip doesn't inspire confidence like in the Bimmer. That being said, the GT is way up on power, and actually does have very high limits for grip, so that probably explains why it's able to keep up.

My parents let me drive their old station wagon until I saved up $3500 to buy a 1995 Ford Escort with 170k miles on it. I drove it for about 30k miles then the water pump went out and the motor pretty much died with it. I mean if you're comfortable with your parents buying you a car then I say go for it. Just remember what they did for you and never take them for granted.

so everything you're saying is subjective and all your opinion. just so everyone's clear here.

Of course. I think people's opinion of handling is usually very subjective, isn't it? I have just happened to own a 5.0 and a 3 series, so I'm in a pretty good position to comment I would think.

I think what's worse is when someone tries to highlight that it's your opinion, almost like they're saying it's not worth anything.

my opinion of handling is how it performs on the track... so actual #s. so no, not necessarily subjective. i think the vid pointed out that the M3 also felt a lot better, but actually performed basically the same as the GT.

GTFO and quit trying to start shit by putting your thoughts in my mouth. i thought ryan was writing his opinions in such a way that made it sound like hard facts. i disagreed with it, pointed it out, he admitted that it was his opinion, end of discussion.

y u gotta bring yo hate all up in hur dawg?
