    Astra VXR

http://sniffpetrol.com/category/not-advertisements/page/3/ - top advert Admittedly aimed at the previous model, but the VXR brand has traditionally been all about power figures and bodykits rather than finesse.

    Grand Theft Auto 5

Hobbies, strangers, random and misc all maxed out. Just 2 missions left to go. A double hernia op a couple of weeks ago gave me the perfect excuse to put in the required 60+ hours (as Trevor whenever possible). Have a few things left that don't count towards the 100% including submarine parts...

    MK7 GTI or GTD?

I had the choice when I bought mine and chose GTD. Mind you, over here the GTD is about £500 cheaper than the GTI so price didn't really affect my decision. I'd done quick turbo petrol with a 335i and I'd done screaming to the redline with an RX-8. I figured a fat slug of torque was most...

Saw a Mk7 GTI on the road today

After months of seeing various normal spec Mk7s (and driving a couple) I've finally seen a GTI on the road. I have to say that I've got mixed opinions. It looked good, but already being used to seeing Mk7s about it was only really the badge on the grille that make me pay attention. It didn't...

    Today I drove a Mk7

Unfortunately not a GTI, but a 1.4 120hp DSG in S spec. I won't dwell on engines and equipment levels save to say that with 200lbft from 1500rpm the 1.4 is surprisingly useful, epspecially when paired with the 7-speed DSG. And I really hope the GTI/GTD seats remain as good as they currently...

    Audi S3 Sedan or Mercedes-Benz CLA45 AMG?

CLA definitely. It will almost certainly ride better, it won't automatically tailgate the car in front and, based on recent AMG models, it should be much more fun to drive.

previous/current RX-8 owners, whats your verdict?

The RX-8 is fun but after a TDI it would drive you nuts if it was anything other than a weekend toy. You'll easily deal with the oil consumption (I needed about half a quart with every second tank of fuel). it's the lack of torque and the whole "warm it up or flood it" thing that'll wind you...

    FR-S vs. RX-8 vs. S2000 (Video)

The RX-8 was a brilliant car if you were in the mood. If you weren't in the mood then it could get very frustrating very quickly. I kept mine for 14 months and to the very last day I owned it I loved it but as a daily driver the 200 mile range, complete lack of torque and ever present risk of...

    Fun Cars

Mk2.5 MX-5 (Miata) was the most fun car I've ever owned. Despite not being particularly quick it was much more fun to drive than my RX-8, 335i or GTD. It'll go sideways anywhere you want and at speeds that make it not too license threatening. I hear the BBR turbo kit for it is pretty good too...

    What was your first car?

Mk1 Fiat Punto. Fiat were so proud of it's 60bhp that they even stuck "60" badges on the front wings. Bought new, it survived for 8 months until someone pulled out of a side road in front of me turning it into a complete write off.

    770 miles range

Had to take a 90 mile journey home today instead of a 45 mile one due to an idiot deciding to jump off of a bridge. It did have one major plus though. Those 90 miles were at an average of 42mph according to the MFD, most of which at little more than tickover. By the end it was claiming a range...

    New eco record

I used to drive an RX-8. Less than 18mpg (<15mpg US) was normal. 180 miles on a tank was the worst thing about the consumption.

    New eco record

It was the 1.6 TDI. Quite slow, but being a diesel the torque was nice and low down in th rev range so it didn't need to be worked hard to keep up a good pace. Definitely bigger than a Passat. The rear legroom was better than a 5-series or E-class.

    New eco record

Today I had a Skoda Superb as a hire car. After just over 200 miles I'd averaged 68mpg (56mpg using US gallons). For a car that's as big as a 5 series that's not bad at all.

    Explain your User Name.

Not particularly exciting, but I've made a few sandwiches in my time. You can probably guess what my first name is. Some of my creations (all presented on a 12" plate for reference).
