And that brings to the point I couldn't shake while reading through. A 550HP VR6 swap into a FWD is ridiculous unless you're building a drag strip runner only, and budget for all the suspension to make it work. I was dreaming of the swap into my R somewhere way down the line after I finish more important projects but would never dream of it without AWD to be able to use it all.
As to OP yes what others have said, rebuild your existing engine if able, take the time to determine your goals and while it's apart do some upgrades that will go towards that. If it's not salvageable then go buy a used engine that is running and drop it in, if budget allows you could even refresh that engine before dropping it in.
