im a double clutch d00d....what exactly is a short shifter..I hear about them but I don't know what they do..I assume they help with smoother shifts?
They reduce the distance in how much the stick moves between gear engagement, some are either front to back, some are side to side, and some are both.
Here is the one I just bought last week (awaiting delivery). It is from ECS and they are a reasonable $50. To my door (Canada) they wanted $85. And they are continuously out of stock.

No, you don't need the cable links on the MK6.
And, you can pick this up at any local Audi dealer for about $60.

www.getvwparts.com has it as well - with the old/other part# listed from the ECS thread. There is also a small discount code thats "VMO" I believe.
