My wife says the same thing. But I have to disagree. True, both cars and gambling are both addictions....but at least I have something to show for it.
My wife hits the casino once a week, and I always give her shit about the money that she blows there.
She always replies, (in my fake, sarcastic, whiny, nasally wife voice)...,."Well, what about YOU and all your CARS....and TIRES and WHEELS and stupid MUFFLERS....."
I always reply,...."Look outside....its all right there in the driveway. I still HAVE all that stuff........What do YOU have?"
Turns out she has a vagina. And she makes triple my salary. So I lose this argument every time.

My back-up car. 2004 Grand Am GT. It's beat though. 167,000 miles. It uses more coolant than it does gasoline.
Yeah, but not when you're not sure what you want to get....and you feel pressured to get a car ASAP. My back-up car is about to head out to pasture. And my GTI is gone. And my wife got rear ended in downtown Pittsburgh this weekend. She wasn't hurt, but her Murano is smashed. Fighting with the insurance company of the guy that hit her now to get her a rental until her car is fixed.
So...yeah I don't like being rushed when it comes to buying a car. I like to shop around. Play one dealership against the other...etc.
I buy a new car every 2 years. Why? Just because that's what I do.
I loved my GTI. But it was getting up in miles a little (45,000). And I really "hit the wall" mod wise. And when there are no more mods to look forward to......then, to ME, it's time to move on. I get bored if there are no more mods coming up. Instead of enjoying the car because it's finally "done"....I dump it. That's just what I do. I start over on another project.
The next logical mod for me was to KO4. But I just can't see me spending all that money when the MK7 is right around the corner.
I hope the MK7 is not a bust....because I will own one if it's the real deal. But I am not impressed with the new Jetta, so...I don't know what the next GTI will be like yet.
Until then (when the MK7 comes out), I am looking for a car to keep me busy for the next 2 years. I am actually looking at used cars this time (2010-2011...with under 20,000 mi)
I would like something AWD, and have narrowed it down to an Audi A4 or a G37x.

The point I'm trying to make is that if I am going to put a KO4 in a GTI, its going to be a MK7, not an MK6. If I like the MK7 I will get one immediately, so to ME, it just wouldn't make sense to spend $5,000 to KO4 an MK6 that I would just be getting rid of as soon as the MK7 came out. The time it took me to save up and get the KO4 put in my MK6.....by that time the MK7 would be less than a year away possibly. Then get everything swapped over to the MK7?.....no guarantee that the parts would even be compatible? I'm not doing that.
And, yes Gun.....I am well aware that a KO4 MK6 is way faster than a stock MK7. I'm not THAT stupid. Give me a little credit here

No shit right? Ugh aggregates the hell out of me? Why limit to 6sp. Yes there are the ones out there they dis the DSG and say 6spd ma is the only way to go, I think not. With a DSG you don't have to replace the clutch/clutches when going K04 per say. Plus quicker shifts with out the monotonous clutch pedal. I've driven to many manuals to buy a $27,000 vehicle with one in it, let alone. $36,000 Golf .:R!!
