DSG When shifting down to 3rd gear

Hi all,

I’m looking at buying a 2011 GTI, the DSG service is due now. While on test drive, and shifting through gears manually I noticed when I would downshift to 3rd, the revs would drop to 2000 then rise to 2500 and drop again?

Does anyone know the symptoms or causes of this, or is this normal?

Thanks

Yea, I have booked a pre-purchase inspection (with a DSG check), and hopefully it isn’t anything major that a DSG service couldn’t fix. I’ve been told to stay away from the GTI but I’ve just been bitten by the Gti bug.

I'd pass on that GTI altogether... Dsg issues are something to stay far away from. Even if routine maintenance would fix, I'd be very wary of it.

I'm sure you can find a good deal on another gti.

Thanks everyone for your advice, I have declined the car, just so hard to find a decent GTI. I’m beginning to wonder if I should look for something else.

Just keep checking man. I have 120k on a DSG car and never experienced anything like that. Would help to have VCDS or OBD eleven or something to scan a car before you buy but normally a DSG should shift smoothly up or down.
