Details as to why? Or just, "Ferraris are better than Corollas... even though they both get you from location A to location B"?

Well, the cheapo cables don't have software, the software in Lite version from Ross-tech costs $99 bucks. So, you're already at about $150 for an eBay cable and the software.

Then you have the issue about SOME knockoff cables burning out the USB port on your laptop. That's always nice.

Then the additional issue of the Lite software only being registered for 1 computer. The real cable has the activation inside it, so you can use it on any computer and all you want. The Lite software holds the activation because the cable can't so it's computer specific.

So, if your laptop dies or Windows corrupts (that'll NEVER happen! LMAO) then you get ONE more activation for free, after that, buy new software again.

There are lots of parts you can use replicas, or non-OEM solutions. in this case, the original deal is the ONLY real choice.

^The Ross-Tech website says that the $99 Lite software doesn't even work on Can-Bus cars.

So, I guess that means you absolutely CANNOT buy aftermarket cables and expect to do any Vag-Com.

Hhhmm, you're right. I never even considered the Lite so I never noticed.

From the site;

Limitations of VCDS-Lite compared to VCDS even if Fully Registered:

No Generic OBD-II
Won't work with CAN-Bus vehicles
Fewer fault code definitions and label files
No built-in Activation (you'll be limited to a single PC)
No Advanced Measuring Blocks
No Acceleration Measurement

I don't know how many of them cross over, but certainly some might. :iono:

Some do, some don't.

All you can do is go in and look. Some tweaks you won't even find the entry to attempt them and others you may find it but it will say not supported. The Jetta sedan is built on Polo electronics which leaves a lot to be desired in the way of higher end features but it was cheaper so they could keep the price point down. The Jetta SportWagon is based on the Golf platform still and although I have not plugged into one I am assuming there would be more crossover in that than the Sedan.

What do you mean by squares?

EDT: Are you talking about the Battery icon and iPod/Phone icon?

Here are some picture tutorials you can add to the first post, veedoubleme.

Cool! I updated the ones that were there but didn't have the tutorial, and added the wiper disable. I assume the wiper disable is for people that remove their rear wiper? Can't see why else you'd disable it. :iono:

Yup - I know some people who removed their rear wiper and wanted to disable it so I just added it :)

Thanks again for making all this in one thread - it sure helps, even when I need to remember how to do all these settings in VCDS.

EDIT: Added another

Driver Steering Recommendation (DSR) Settings
http://www.golfmk6.com/forums/showthread.php?p=818996&posted=1#post818996

Now, this is a bit troubling to me. Driver Steering Recommendation (DSR) in the Steering Assist module is different than the Dynamic Steering Recommendation (DSR) in the ABS module.

Now, which one is which? In the sourced thread of http://www.golfmk6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25039, they talk about the DSR setting in the ABS module as the little tug from the steering wheel that attempts to make you turn the wheel a bit more. HOWEVER, I don't think this is the case.

There is another DSR setting in the STEERING ASSIST module which may be the RIGHT one for this.

I believe the DSR setting in the ABS module is actually the Dynamic Steering Recommendation (DSR) which control how the electromechincal steering acts at certain speeds.

I don't really know how to test this, but it's just a little irkling that I got when making these tutorials.

Interesting, your window looks totally different than mine. Also, I found out why mine was not working when just changing the speed setting. There is a box in the long coder where it allows you to check a box that says "Enable speed threshold" or something similar. That was de-selected, and since they do not allow you disable that warning this meant that the speed warning was displayed anytime the car was moving any speed. Once I selected the box to enable and re-did the code it would look for the limit which I had set at 250.
