Startup rattle- normal or no?

Car is new to me, has 44k on it 2012 6MT 4dr Autobahn. When it's cold I'll get this rattle at startup more often than not. Recently It has also been taking longer to crank before firing (4 cranks). Also once it didn't start completely and I had to push the button a second time. Took it to the dealer and they said it was normal startup noise, but I'm not convinced. Please weigh in if you have any experience with this.

think i read somewhere that using your e-brake at every time your parked keeps from load on the engine which creates chain problems (possibly).

what i'm confused on is what is a 6MT DSG?

6mt = 6 speed manual transmission. DSG = direct shift gearbox or automatic. The parking brake thing may help manual cars, not DSG, but I would argue that using it is a good practice.

Sorry, carbon shadow grey (CSG), not DSG. It is a manual car.

Interested to hear more opinions on what this could be.

4 cranks is nothing - mine has always acted this way upon start up. As for the rattle... not sure.

sounds exactly how mine rattled before the chain tensioner failed, but mine lasted for almost 3 seconds.

Maybe the previous owner put a single mass flywheel or upgraded clutch. Does it make a rattling noise with the AC on idling?

no, no noise once idling. And thanks on the CSG clarification. any more input on what the sound could be?

Mine dose the exact thing. Same year, same package. It only dose it on start up and makes no other sounds driving or at idle. It sounds like it's coming from the transmission side and not the timing chain. Anyone know what it could be?

I have a 2013 with same package and it does the same thing.

Dealer told me it was normal and that the MK7's do it too. I'm still skeptical as well.
