Unit for upper consol light's, Bluetooth reception and speaker

Ok so I'm trying to replace my headliner and have run into a snag. I have 1 connector that absolutely will not come out. Maybe I'm not seeing a release or not disconnecting this portion correctly. Anyone have any suggestions.

Unfortunately that's not working. It's tight in there. I thought I'd use some needle nose pliers but then I'm afraid I'll mar it up.

It looks like there is a slot in the back (side opposite the wire exits) where perhaps you press down a tab inside the slot to release?

I wonder, it looks like the unit it plugs into (the black round object) is clipped into the housing with simple hook clips. How about just unclipping the round black device it's plugged into?
