Both Mk.VII GTI and S3 8V share the same (aluminium)
swivels and (steel) control arms.
Only the new Mk.III TT (8S) comes with aluminium arms.
They probably fit the GTI and S3 though (and add camber).

because of platform/chassis size and cost. true Quattro cars (more $$$ too)that use worm gears and equal length drive shafts, are set up to be longitudinal.

torque steer is also lessened without much computer aid if any.

standard smaller golfs/jettas/polos/pointers (not passat) etc are transverse and the gearbox sits on the driverside. this allows more space for passengers and their junk in such a small chassis but axles are unequal.
