It's normal to me. I've owned at least 17 and as I stated previously, every one financed through the dealer (about 5-6 iirc) had the goings on in the F&I office recorded. When I have paid cash or brought my own financing to the table then nothing was recorded. It could very well be that certain lenders require this and some do not. Im not sure why it's done, and frankly I don't really care. I recorded my sales person when I was negotiating with them just so that in case something didn't get downstream the way it should I had covered my ass.
Also, Having been the victim of Identity Theft, I think recording in the F&I room is a GREAT idea. It keeps people honest. Again, not really sure why so many are put off by this practice...
