Engine oil recommendations

Apologies, it’s my first time owning a VW!

I have a gold gti mk6 2011, I’m going to service it myself. However what is the best and recommended engine oil?

various threads say w30 however some say factory recommended w40.

what brand are people using?

Oh, the Gold ones take a different spec........

Make sure whatever you use says VW 502 or 504 for specification. That is the factory spec, the weight (viscosity) can be different based on climate and usage but that specification is a must.
