What about a good 300Z 2+2? T-tops and a decent back seat.

That's gonna be too old most likely, he would probably like it but hes already comin from a 1994 car.

I'd probably look at an 07+ Lexus IS 250 or 350 personally though. 250 with a manual. Off the top of my head

I agree with the E46. If he has a kid in a car seat it'll be too small though. My friend is looking to sell his 330i and move into a 5 series for that reason.

Welp, he's dead set on a Mustang convertible despite my (your) suggestions. Not the worst outcome though, not a bad car.

Yeah as long as it's a 2011+ the V6 is great, though it doesn't feel very "sports car" like with the automatic and MPG-oriented stock gearing. It's remarkable how completely different a standard auto V6 Mustang feels compared to one with MT and performance pack, like night and day. 0-60 goes from something like 6.5 seconds down to 5 seconds.
