Why 45s vs. 40?

They do come closer to the stock 25.5” 19” diameter. I’ve debated the switch too, since the 255/40-17 RS4 are a half inch undersized.

Closest to the original diameter of stock setup of 235/35/19, 0.8% bigger so reduce the wheel gap a little more. 245/40/17 would have been -3.1% smaller.
