After the best grandmother in the world, who was wonderful enough to leave me some $$$, with which I bought my last GTI. That one was Ida. This one being another candy white GTI, the name seemed natural.

My car is red, so I wanted to name it Ruby.
Some of my coworkers are WWI nuts, and said I should call it the Red Barron and get the Iron Cross on it.

I liked the Red Barron part but not the Iron Cross. So I called her Baroness Ruby!

I haven't named a car since I had my 1963 Rambler Classic 4dr. I named it "Midnight" (midnight rambler; Rolling Stones song - get it?)

I might name my new GTI (when it gets here) "Fritz" after my mother. We are of German descent, and my grandfather used to call my mom schnicklefritz when she was a child. It was shortened to "Fritz", and that's what everyone in her family has called her ever since. She's 91 now and my new GTI will undoubtedly outlive her, so it might be a fitting tribute to a tough-as-nails old lady.
