wheel/tire size

i want to get a set of wheels for my golf, i was wondering what is the ration for rim to tire size so that my odometer isnt all screwed up

i want to purchase a set of 17's

depends on the width of the wheel too. but for 17x7.5 or 17x8 id get 225/45R17

thanks, i want something light and fairly cheap. i dont have springs yet so tehre will be quite some wheel gap -_-, anyone got any ideas? i like those xxr rims
