Where's actually 2011 GTI made from?

Hi folks :)
I just placed my order for the new 2011 GTI 5dr, wonder where actually it made / manufactured from ?
The sales told me 50-50, Germany or South Africa :(...... He can't even gurantee that... personally I think if production line shift from GER to SA, it would be a nightmare for VW... no idea on that... anyone got updates with this issue ?

my car will arrive me in MAR 2011.... can't wait :)

Is that sure in Wolfsburg ? its weird the sales didnt guarantee it with me :confused::mad0259:

When you get a VIN for your car, the first digit will indicate country of assemlbly. A 'W' will indicate Germany. Ask your salesperson to get you the VIN as soon as it is assigned to the order (it should be assigned a good bit prior to assembly - probably as soon as a production slot is designated to it). It'll put your mind at ease.

OOOO as I know, in China there're golf production, but currently, not the GTI model :)

Thanks NEOH :) great headsup man, could only check in Dec... while my GTI was assigned to order :thumbsup: Fingercroxx the "W" :laugh:

Har har, funny about the China stuff. Though I think it's a misnomer. Common inside knowledge in VW is that their China-made current platform vehicles (we're not talking about the Santana and such) are some of the most reliable and best made cars in their family.

My parents are expats living in China, and works for a German company which counts VW and other automobile mfgrs number among of their customers.

Also, the GTI is still WOB, not China.

In China Mainland the Golf Mk6 is made by FAW-VW, and in March 2010 the GTI begins to be built locally. It is the first time that GTI is mounted in China. The Chinese-Spec Golf GTI does not use the same engine as the international one, but takes 2.0TSI which produces only 200 hp (149 kW), 10 hp (7 kW) less than the original one.

Yep, as posted by sdvictor...both the Golf6 and GTI are also built in China for the Chinese market but might soon be also used for other South East Asian Markets.
South Africa was also hopping to build some Golf 6s too. We will know by the year's end..
