I've been looking at the 28mm bar tho, coz I have a TDi and they are inherently heavier in the front end that a GTi...

Not sure on that, Which rear bar are you pairing it with? The 26mm front bar on my gti in the front is perfect paired with a 24mm rear H&R

26 front on soft (if worried about more weight upfront you could try front on hard)
24 rear on hard

I've always wondered about this. I don't have any clunks or anything from the front. Does a deadset kit have any advantages if I don't have subframe clunk or shifting?

It locks down the front end. I noticed a difference on my last Tiguan (which was brand new & had no issues either), and I plan on adding a set again to my new Tiguan
