ecu immobilizer reprogramming after failure

I didn't really see much info on this while searching the forums. Some people seemed to talk about it but there was no straight answer. So I'm making a post to start some discussion.

My story. Last year after being tuned for a year my ecu failed. I needed the car so I just paid for a new ecu and have been running that since. I sent my old ecu to apr they repaired it and sent it back to me. I asked apr if I could just reinstall the ecu, they didn't have a solid answer for me.

So now I'm starting to feel like I want the tune back again. Today I went to the dealer to have some work done on the car. I asked about reinstalling the ecu and they said 1/2 hour to put it in and it should just work. The tech said that as long as the ecu hasn't been flashed again it should work without reprogramming the immobilizer. This shop is fairly mod friendly even thought they don't flash cars in the shop.

Once the weather here gets nicer I'm going to try doing it. Just posting this up so others can hopefully find the information easily. I'll update once I do the swap.

We perform immobilizer defeats for the MED17 ECU, if you're interested in that service. We don't really advertise it because there normally is no need for a customer to buy it. It's more for back ups in the case one of our customers is in a jam or an ECU for internal usage.

I suppose the best bet would to recoup the cost by selling the old ECU or have it as a back up.

Yeah I know you guys offer the defeat service. If the swap doesn't work I might give you a call to do that. Right now I like having the spare ecu so I don't plan on selling it.

Just adding a post to say the repaired ecu didn't work. Put ecu in cluster seems to init ok but no ignition. Damn new cars and their technology.

So I'll probably do the immobilizer defeat on the repaired ecu now.

I was gonna say im pretty sure on the newer cars once you immo match a new ecu the old one will no longer be match. I could be wrong but just a hunch.
