Buying a GTI...Is Water Pump failure an issue

I will be inking a deal to buy a 2012 GTI in the next week or so. The test drives are done and the car is just awesome. In doing my research, I came across a couple of postings about the water pump failures. Is this a real wide spread problem? From these postings, it seems like the TSI engine has had these problems since 2010 and it does not seem like VAG is getting any closer to fixing it. My question is, does your GTI have Water Pump problems and if it would have stopped you from buying your car.

I think a batch of people had it, but I wouldn't call it a wide spread problem. Its easily replaced under warranty.

No problems but I've only had mine 3 months. There is a warranty so no worries.

Bad batch from cars produced at the end of last summer - mid fall and even then a small issue. I wouldn't worry.

My 2012 was built in Sept 2011 and I have over 10,000 miles on her and no problems of any kind yet.

15,000 miles, no problems.

i have ownership of 2 years, 37000km, no issues at all...go for it!

14 months of ownership, an admittedly rather low mileage of roughly 6K.
No unscheduled service stops.
I've only been back to the dealer for my first years scheduled maintanence.

I do have the rear wiper/washer leak though.

Just about 19.1k miles, bought Feb 29, 2011, no issues thus far aside from the TSBs and minor squeaks and rattle....

I am at about 36,500 miles over 2 years and so far nothing is an issue. Literally, not one issue to report on my car so far, however insignificant.:burnrubber:

Mine just failed on my 2012 GLI...at the stealership right now getting fixed. Go Go VW
