Meh I'm still single with no kids. 2 works better for me and I think it looks better IMO.

Also single w no kids. Looks I'll ever so slightly agree but its a box with wheels regardless if it has 2 or 4 doors and 4 just makes it more versatile. 2 working better is a curious statement. Outside of the looks preference I'm not sure 2 doors offers any benefit that would cause it to work better for someone unless you want to discourage people from asking you to drive places.

The 4 doors definitely sell better since only the basic trim even offers a 2 door in 2017 I believe.

I only have a few close friends that ever ride with me, only one or two at a time. Never more lol.

Was used car shopping last night for the 16 yo.

Have come to the conclusion that used cars are too expensive. Couldn't get anyone down to the $6500-$7000 mark on an 80K+ decent looking car.

The Ford dealer down the street had a 2015 Golf R, 9K miles for $35K though, which isn't far off what I paid for mine new.

Some decent cars on this list.

Keep looking, I've seen some great deals out there. 16 yo needs a $3000 car, tops. My first 2 cars in the 90's were $50 each. The first was junk, the second was a great car actually. 85 Ford Tempo coupe.

I agree. But, 3K buys unreliable which I don't need. I have a hard enough time keeping up with my own fleet of vehicle that I don 't need another one that constantly needs repairs.

FWIW, she is putting 3K of her own money into it, mom 2K and grandma 2K. Pretty fair.

I think you can find "reliable" for $3-4k if you look hard enough.

It's not going to be "cool" (or "cute" if female) but it will be basic and reliable. Just a few very quick examples, these were the top 3 search results....

2006 Scion tC - listed at $5k:
http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-...ingId=430805324&makeCode1=SCION&modelCode1=TC

2005 Civic LX, listed at $5k:
http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-...Id=431888299&makeCode1=HONDA&modelCode1=CIVIC

2002 Corolla, listed at $5k:
http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-...d=425722727&makeCode1=TOYOTA&modelCode1=COROL

These are listed at $5k. Can probably get them down closer to $4k. Mom's $2k, Grandma's $2k, and done. Kid's $3k gets transferred out of kid's hands and moved to college fund.
