Sad month this month (and day...)

Spyder was loaded up onto a flatbed today for it's trip to CoPart. :(. About a month ago, it met it's demise against the side of a mountain in the Tail of the Dragon. Could have been worse (could have driven off the side instead), thankfully nobody but myself was affected or hurt (F'd up my back pretty good, fractured a few vertebrae). Without going into detail I'll just say - do as I say, not as I do... leave the ego at home no matter how annoyed you are, leave WAY more margin on the street than you think, especially if you spend time on twisty mountain roads, and watch out for oncoming motorcycles who can't stay in their lane. Otherwise you may find yourself with a trifecta of bad ingredients.

So now... I am, sorta? on the hunt for some kind of replacement. With the Porsche market + retarded ass interest rates, another 718 Spyder is out of the question, sadly. Right now am leaning towards trying to find a clean but "driver quality" 987 Spyder.

If I can't find that, then maybe I'll join my son and buy a new GR86 and pimp it out with all the suspension goodness... or maybe an ND2. Or I could make my son REALLY jealous and find a clean E36 M3 but those things are old now and I don't have a lot of patience for maintenance these days.

Ugh, this is terrible to hear. Glad you’re okay though. I almost got clipped the other day by an early morning commuter coming down the mountain passing on a double yellow.

You had a spyder dude? That's sick.
Rip the car and your vertebrae. You gotta do any surgeries or PT?
Consider the GR86 since the FA24 is a really cool motor (far better than the EJ) and with a few mods it's a weapon.

I'm glad you survived. Hope your back heals up to 100%. Cars can be replaced. That road can be a very unforgiving. I found this one Sunday morning on my way out to drive home.

Well everything I was looking at, I just couldn't push myself over the hump for. I really liked the idea of a smarter decision, spending less... some great stuff out there. I loved my old ND2 that I'd bought for my ex-wife. I really like my son's GR86. I miss the raw feel of my old 987. I came really close to pulling the trigger on a super clean 987 Spyder in TX... but in the end, everything felt more "eh... this'll do" like I was buying a race car as a tool instead of as something to enjoy.

Good friend and my former race engineer from 2021 had connections at a dealer down in Jacksonville and they had a nicely spec'd car that was a little under market... dealer said since it's had 4 previous owners, most people stayed away (since when is bodycount a problem on used cars? Not like you're gonna get an STD!) but since I'm not planning on crashing this one too... I pulled the trigger.

Booked a ticket, flew down Saturday morning, drove it home.

I swore I would never own another black car... 3 black cars ago. Somehow they keep finding their way.

Saved my rims from the other car before it went off to CoPart... mounted those up Sunday before heading over to a buddy's house for a bit.

No surgeries (I hope). Daily chiro visits, regular X-rays and MRIs... so far everything is coming together OK. I do have an appointment with a specialist next week (PITA to get into) but given how things have been healing, I'm not expecting him to really tell me anything. More of a "2nd opinion" kind of thing.

Looks sharp, but I couldn't own a black car

Side note....although I'm not a huge fan of blacked out wheels, I think the OEM wheels looked better, sorry
