Coolant leak and check engine lights

MadSc13ntist

Ready to race!
I have had a coolant leak for about a week now and the check engine light just came on. Took it to the shop and Im being told there is a cooling fan circuit code, knock sensor code and a intake manifold control code, need to replace both cooling fans, water pump and flush the cooling system and hopefully that will resolve the issue.....$2,000. WTF does that seem like it makes sense? seems high AF to me

It does seem high af. But others on here have been quoted the same thing. I would seriously consider doing it myself if they quoted me that much. The pump alone is $370 from the dealer which helps to explain the insane price, but I suspect the shops quoting that much are expecting to replace injector seals as the intake manifold does have to come off. The water pump from shopdap is aluminum and only costs $170. This doesn't include the $40 belt you really should replace or the torque to yield bolt that holds the pulley on, any of the o-rings you should most certainly replace, or the gasket, but even so it's a lot cheaper than $370 for the OEM pump and a hell of a lot cheaper than the $2k. If you follow the repair manual and make sure not to rip the threads out of the bolt holes for the intake manifold it shouldn't be terribly difficult. And $2k seems like a lot for that work...

You're likely correct that the shops are taking the manifold into account.

But you do not have to remove the intake manifold to replace the water pump. Totally possible without doing this. All you have to do is remove the throttle pipe, throttle body, and aluminum manifold support bracket.

Good to know!
