Freektune Custom Maps for Cobb Accessport

Ready to race!
Just wanted to take some time and throw up a review for Justin at Freektune. I have been running a Cobb OTS stage 2 map on my 2014 GTI for about 3 months and it seemed fine and ran pretty well. Out of the data logs I sent out to be reviewed by Cobb I barely got responses back but when I did there was nothing horribly wrong with the OTS map just the fact that I was not running their 3" intake which according to Cobb caused my car to aggressively detonate. But anyways moving on from Cobb(which by the way I love my accessport) I contacted Justin at Freektunehttp://www.freektune.com/ because I heard some great things about him from a buddy of mine running his custom maps on a Focus ST. So I emailed him at the end of my work day 5pm and had a reply ready for me at 9am the following day. Started talking after a few emails I went ahead and purchased a custom E-tune. He asked all my mods specifically listed by name, what elevation I'm at, and what gains or specific things I'm looking to accomplish with a custom tune. I asked for Launch control, and to gain some more power out of the stage 2 map. After I sent all that information over in 2 business days I received 2 custom stage 2 maps. One with LC and one without. I've ran the LC map now for about 20-30 miles and will begin my datalogs for Justin to take a look at and continue refining the stage 2 map.

As far as the tune goes Freektune stage 2 feels amazing compared to the OTS cobb map. The powerband is way different and much smoother. 3rd 4th and 5th pull way harder and deliver power much better. My overall experience with Justin and Freektunes has been great and I would recommend it to everyone with a mk6 and a Cobb accessport. So go ahead and check out http://www.freektune.com/ and Justin will definitely deliver. Thanks for looking.

Thank you for the great review and feedback. Looking forward to seeing the data logs, and then we can really dial her in :)

And again I sent my first set of logs over to Justin yesterday around 6pm. I received an email back today at 1 pm with an updated map and setting up a few other logs to send back. Been great working so far with Justin and Freektune. Stay tooned for my final map and then a few dyno runs.

Been a pleasure working with you!

This has me heavily considering going Cobb/Freektune. I keep bouncing back and forth between Cobb and APR.

The way I see it, to go stock tune to stage 2, APR will charge about $1,000 all said and done.

But, correct me if I'm wrong, if I go the Cobb/Justin route, it is $650 for the AP and $150 for the e-tune. So a total of $800, which is $200 less than APR while delivering comparable results.

Am I missing something? Are there features that APR offers that Cobb lacks or that Justin couldn't provide?

That's correct sir. Don't get me wrong APR is a master at their craft as well. But what you get with custom tuning is unmatched in drive ability and modding options.

Justin, I have a completely silly request.... is it possible to introduce some popping and cackling sounds to the exhaust during engine deceleration at higher RPMs without ruining the turbo and catalyst?

Because that would just be the best.

That's good to hear. I'll be contacting you about a tune (few months down the road). I think you've swayed me.

Are you or Cobb able to do anything with the TCU for us DSG folks?

Remove you cat. And get a catback exhaust.

My catback exhaust has some pops and gurgles even when stock tune.

Justin, what are you seeing on average from fully bolted K04 cars for power? Im running Unitronic k04 software at the moment, but just canned how it comes, no calibrations for my specific build... It pulls hard, but I know theres more room in there for improvement with all my boltons. Just curious what you are seeing on average, numbers wise...?

If it's a decent increase over a canned k04 tune I may be interested in switching to COBB and talking to you more lol :)

Nothing for DSG/TCU tunes. Cobb stated it may be on the agenda after they finish doing mk7 stuff.
