Quick question - I didn't see anywhere to plug the wire with the green connector into the new head unit. I just left it dangling and haven't experienced any negative effects. Did you find where this plugs in?

I believe the green connector is for the MDI/USB connection, not needed in this case as this has the inputs on the front.

I viewed another DIY on removing the RCD 510 which I have in my vehicle. Below I am going to show a few steps that may help others when installing this headunit.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tools Used:
Small Pry Tool
T20 Torx Screwdiver

Completion Time:
~20 Minutes

Installation Steps:
1. Remove faceplate from headunit using pry tool.

2. Remove the 4 T20 screws as shown.

3. At this point, the headunit will pull directly out. Disconnect the CAN connector and antennas.

4. Included in the packaging is an antenna adapter that you will need to use. View picture to see how it connects.

5. Plug in CAN connector and antenna. Then mount headunit and install faceplate.

NOTES:
- From scanning this thread if you have Dynaudio you must unplug/plug your car battery to get everything to function.

Only thing I would add:

Removing the Quad Lock (Big Square Plug):
Press down at the bottom of the connector and pull the upper part up.
It should just slide out.

This step can be challenging if you do not know what to do :p

Alright guys, so I solved my no carplay problem. After a deep search I wound up watching a YouTube video and in the comments saw that somebody was having Bluetooth connection issues along with numerous other problems. Somebody that upgrades the non-carplay units posted a Dropbox link to a firmware update that updates the unit. Downloaded it onto a USB flash drive, inserted it into the RCD330, updated.... FIXED! I NOW HAVE CARPLAY! If anybody else has an issue or has an older version of the firmware let me know and I can put the file along with install directions in my own Dropbox for you. I'm so happy this fixed my unit. I'm going to play around with it for a day and I'll report back. I will say I have to agree with others saying the sound quality sounds much better than the RNS315 I had!

Got a message from my seller on eBay and chatted with him via Whatsapp. He sent me a link to download an even newer version of the firmware. He said this has happened before. Minor language barrier.

He gave me the link below for the update to a onedrive account:
https://1drv.ms/u/s!Am8nQJSlrtIAbqYukWiRwvNr9Zw

Instructions to update as follows:
1. Download the file and save it onto a USB flash drive. Do Not extract it to the flash drive, just drag and drop from your computer.
2. Turn on radio and insert flash drive into the USB port on your radio.
3. Press and hold the SETUP key until you see UPDATE menu.
4. Select UPDATE and follow the prompts. Upgrade takes 6-10 minutes. Don't turn off ignition or power off stereo during upgrade.
5. Radio should restart itself and have the updated firmware.

Thats odd why the 187B didnt come shipped with air play. Any idea what the newest firmware fixes?

I know with my noname model, the podcast app pauses for a split second and then comes back.

The message he sent me started the following fixes for this update:
-Front speakers lack of bass
-Bluetooth connection issue
-reboot issue

It doesn't need to be connected. I left it dangling behind unit.

I've watched a few videos on this now. Looks like if your phone is jailbroken you can do a lot of other things with carplay. Such as YouTube and Google Maps. Curious if you can play your videos through the RCD330 because I saw that the photos app is also carplay when you jailbreak.

Ngx app looks awesome. May jailbreak my iPhone just for that app. Would love to have the ability to play YouTube videos.

This is tempting. but I really don't want to jailbreak my phone just for this :(

Will wait till WWDC(Apple Dev conference) and see if they make any changes to Carplay.
