1987 Honda Civic LX. Like this, but almost new at the time. Sparked a love affair with Hondas that lasted until the early 00s.

I shared my dad's 1991 Audi 100, absolutely loved that car, and begin my personal love over German cars. The first car I owned, and still have, is a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am, was my Grandma's car. The transmission took a crap at 94k this year, I picked up my GTI. I have since got the GA fixed on the cheap, but is definitely not reliable enough for an everyday driver, although it will be my winter driver this year...see how it goes!

1952 Hudson Hornet, maroon top, french gray bottom, 306 cubic inch, flat head, 145 BHP, the year was 1964, Hudson won Daytona in '52 or '53 or maybe both years. I bought this car from my father for $50.00, when he moved up to a '58 Lincoln Continental. He let me use the Lincoln for the Prom, all it took was a major wash, clean out the inside, i think we used wisk brooms at the time and a Blue Coral wax job.:)

In the late 50's and early 60's most of my friends had cars like:

49 ford coupe, 50 ford coupe, 53 chevy belair, 53 merc, then a few that were working full time or came from a well off family had, a 55, 56, 57, 58 chevys, 57 vet, 60 chevy (one of my favorite cars at the time owned by a friend) was a red '60 chevy, 348 cu in, 350 hp, 3X2 carbs.

My best friend at the time had a 61 vet, 283 cu in 315 fuely, white with a plum colored insert. i loved that car, before that he had a 57 Olds with J2 engine 3X2 carbs as well. But when we went on a double date we took the old Hudson.

Then in about 62/63 time frame everybody with a full time job was buying a new car and making monthly payments, this was a new phenomenon. all the other cars i mentioned were owned with only a few payments or bought for them (the more well off kids). But now everybody had payments and was driving a new car. 62 -65 Chevys, gto's, Plymouth, not too many vets, they were all 4 speeds with at least 250 HP up to 409's and everybody was taking them to the drag strip, changing to solid lifters, changing carburetors, changing rear end gears (336 to 390 or 411, with a few serious guys going 456 gears), jetting the carburetors, tires for traction for the track etc.

And now, years later many of the younger guys on this web site are doing the stage 1, 2 and 3, air boxes, exhaust etc. things really haven't changed, even a 90 dollar a month payment which was about a weeks pay is probably close to what guys are paying a month now. ( a weeks pay every month for the car payment)

i bought my '65 327, 300 hp and was paying about 90 dollars a month. I had it almost a year and got drafted, sold it to another guy who failed the induction physical, i think i dreamt about that car for about 3 years, like i still owned it. I rented a garage around the corner from my house for 5 dollars a month, and in my dreams i would open the garage and the car would be there, a few years later i heard the guy i sold it to was racing on the street and totaled it.:(

i did like the "Hud", i beat all of the early cars, but in 57 the chevys 8 cylinder went from a 265 cu in engine to a 283 and they were totally out of my league, but i did stay ahead of a friend of mine one night we kicked it down at 60 and from 60 to 90 i had him, he had a '64 Pontiac Bonneville, after 90 he walked away from me. after about a year of my abuse it started using quite a bit of oil, and i reluctantly got rid of it. Bought the Chevy and started making payments, which by the way i am still doing.
