DSG vs. Manual

LargeMargeSentMe

@APRMK6GTi those are the ones I bought, AMAZING mounts! easy install, but good god they are loud. I have the red puck, and the other 3 mounts are 034. I actually dynamatted (heavily) my two doors, hatch and trunk to compensate for the vibrations and feel like I've found a nice balance, when I'm just putting around town it's really quiet now, and when I get on it it sounds like how a john deer tractor would sound if it existed in a Mad Max film.

If you want to go k04 or higher, I would go dsg. The manual clutch can't hold the k04 power, so it'd be another thing you'd have to do in order to go k04. If I had to do it again, I'd have gone DSG. If you will only look at stock tuning, stage one, or stage 2, then manual is the way to go, a lot more fun to drive....

Ok, so your logic is, despite paying what is it? like 800 bucks for DSG maintenance if you take it to VW, replacing a worn stock clutch when it eventually goes for around 900-1000, is bad?

At least we do not have required additional expensive maintenance unless we truly go the way of upgrading and require a new clutch. Unless your a sh!tty driver, a clutch shouldn't be going out before 100k. I've been in stock clutches that were around 130k miles in other cars...

oh, and MANUAL cause I'm a fucking man.

This makes me laugh but, it does make you feel great all the time when you don't have to sugar coat the automatic when you tell stories to your friends about why you got the auto. "oh It's NOT AUTO, it's DSG, it's like a suped up version of an automatic that shifts faster, and is even faster than manual, totally better than manual dudes" lol.

It's easy to say, I drive manual, mic drop. Then respect comes your way, lol.

Honestly though, I've never once bragged about driving manual as I've heard other buddies do, and stay hush hush. When someone gets in my car it's like, OH, it's manual? I say yeah, they ask, is it hard to drive? Do you like it? Those are the common questions and I simply state, no, love it.

you guys and your broken clutches? either lots of forum members learned to drive stick playing gran turismo, or my clutch is made of adamantium cause ive been stage 2 for two years now and beat on that thing all day long with no issues whatsoever.

I've been APR stage 2 for well over 10k miles with stock clutch and i dont beat my car but i don't drive it like a bitch, and my clutch has no issues at all. My best friend went APR stage 2 and got 300 miles and his clutch slips so bad. I dunno what to think about our clutch

You are just lucky or have an updated clutch.

You guys are ridiculous with this $800 DSG service shit. It's 100 bucks for the stuff and most performance shops will do the change for another 90 or whatever an hour of labor is.
I'm not even joining the debate I like both equally. It's just bad information

completely agree, i have owned multiple manual vehicles, and i test drove a DSG before i drove a manual gti and i hated every second of it, was no impressed. I could care less that is shifts faster, im not a racecar driver, i dont track my car, so just having more fun driving the streets, Manual all day long

You know you brought back a 3 year old thread!!

BTW DSG. I track the car and DD it. I do love driving manual but 25k miles a year in heavy traffic I went with DSG. Also most high end cars are switching away from manual now days.

If I'm less of a man because the GTR only comes in sequential....so be it. I'd drive one in a heartbeat.

So clearly you can DIY things for a lot less, but the reality is that the majority of people are paying between $400-900 for the DSG service. If we start comparing the price to DIY things then we can say it's only $300 for a southbend stage 3 disk installed.

That brings the costs to this:
Manual: $300 drop-in disk. No fluid change required.
DSG: $1,200 optional extra. $100 DIY Change (or $400-900). DSG Tune ($600).

300 vs. 1,900 + 100x (X being every 40K miles).

No matter which way you want to put it, manual is the cheaper option. I am not saying that makes it the best, but it is the budget friendly way to go.

You're trying way to hard to discredit the DSG. :attention_whore:

If you're tuned, the clutch replacement is not cheap. If I lived in a better location I would do DSG services all day for cheap.

It amazes me that people have such strong opinions about whether or not DSG or MT is better. Who cares? It's all about what makes you feel more comfortable. I don't think anyone in a DSG has to make excuses for owning an automatic. Drive what you want and enjoy it.

Are you buying the car to share with a female? If so get the automatic dsg.

This is offensive to those of us who are females and know how to drive a manual/own one
