RSR clutch kit questions/concerns

Ready to race!
TTS PP and Stage 3 drop in should make for a bad ass clutch then

I would think that since some member have done just the Stage 3 drop in with the stock presure plate and have held K04 power in some cases that the addition of the TTS PP would only make things better.

The Stage 3 drop in cost more than the TDI clutch disk and the the Stage 3 drop in does not have the springs in the disc to improve drivability and reduce 1st gear take-off chatter like the TDI dics.

IIRC the revised Stage 3 is now organic and it seems now to be more like the TDI disc but without hub springs, so your sugested combo should hold well but would cost more and be a little more grabby than the Calkulin combo IMO.

I agree.. although might be little chatter due to material used. but will bite HARD, along with slightly heavier peddle feel.

I bought the LuK version, which included the TOB and clutch alignment tool

Thanks for the excellent info. Can you also post the LuK part number for the TTS pressure plate?

Thanks.

Edit: I think it's 17-067.

I spoke South Bend at Waterfest and there is no updated drop in disc. It is still the same metallic and organic. They said if anyone has a disc with dual organic then it is wrong

The dualmass flywheel should keep the engagement nice and smooth

Also, I opened a new thread to talk about sourcing of the parts, etc and we can leave this discussion for the technical side, etc since that is what this thread initially started as

I spoke to south bend also during WF and they told me the exact opposite lol. They said an organic disc was available but "it doesn't make sense since its the same material as OEM and I might as well go with the feramic"

Waiting for an update from caulkulin before I start ordering these parts to make my own clutch kit! [emoji2]

If you want to order what I have, it will be a few more weeks before I mount my Stage 3 kit, so hopefully you're not in a rush ;)

Already done ;) $410 shipped(I said $398 earlier but I forgot that I got charged tax on the PP) and that price includes everything pictured, the bolts and even the alignment tool also

Anyone else concerned that the 03G141031T clutch disk sourced from Europe (e.g., the one sold by Spareto) is not exactly the same as the disk used in the RSR kit and the stock Golf R disk? The friction material looks different and the rivets are in a different location. The color (and possibly heat treatment) of the splined hub is also different (Spareto hub is darker). Spareto identifies the source as Sachs, but I'm wondering if it's a knockoff.

The main reason they look different is because of lighting, plus the fact they are shot with different DSLRs. Here's a pic of a used 03G141031T disk in almost the same lighting vs the Sachs version, so no, it's not some knockoff. Also if you're so worried about it, you can just order the VW version

I was conscious of the difference in lighting for the photos. Photography has been a hobby of mine for over 20 years. The coloring of the hub was not my biggest concern. The rivets for the friction material are not in the same place for the two disks. They are near the middle diameter of the friction material on the Spareto disk. They are closer to the outer edge of the friction material for the 03G141031T Sachs disk that comes with the RSR and 06J141015J kit used in the Golf R, A3, etc. I think it's clear that the disks are not the same.

The Spareto disk may very well be perfectly good. That wasn't my point. But Spareto advertises it as a Sachs disk and it may not be. Your long term feedback on how the Spareto disk holds up will be very helpful.

Using a new OEM disk from 06J141015J would add approx. $150 to the cost of the DIY kit. Using a reman'd OEM disk (JX) would only add approx. $50 to the cost.

I'm not trying to ruin what you've done. I have a APR Stage 1 GTI with a slipping clutch and want this to work out as much as everyone else. Thanks very much for your efforts. Just making some observations that could impact my buying decisions and asking questions.

Look up the Sachs catalog and search for the Audi A1 2.0 TDI and you'll see the clutch disk details there if you want, I can't direct link it but I'll quote what the page has

Thanks for the link to the catalog. Very helpful. Looks like the Spareto disk is a legitimate Sachs disk (1878 005 146) that matches the look of the photo for what they call VW part 03G141031T.

I still see a difference in the rivet location on the RSR/Golf R disk and the Spareto disk. I did some additional digging in the catalog and looking at photos, but shouldn't have because I'm even more confused. The RSR and Golf R disks appear to be identical, even down to the Sachs part number printed on the friction material (1849 001 532). I was able to track down the Sachs disk that looks identical to the RSR/Golf R disks and has the same number on the friction material. This part is Sachs 1878 004 541, which according to the catalog is equivalent to VW 06J141031A, but was discontinued in July 2013.

The photos below show two different disks, both identical in appearance and having the same number on the friction material. One of them says 03G141031T on the hub and the other says 1878 004 541 (discontinued). Neither of them looks like the disk in the Sachs catalog linked to 03G141031T. The number on the friction material for that disk is 1849 002 543.

In fact, if you go to ecstuning.com and look at photos for the Golf R clutch kit (06J141015J), the disk shown for the new version says 1878 004 541 on the hub and the disk for the remanufactured version says 03G141031T.

Very weird.

Great so far, no issues, I'm just waiting to get retuned(waiting on the tuner). Once that's done, then I'll plan when I will install the Stage 3 kit
