I'm not saying everything about it would be morally correct but the majority of the issue with dating someone close to you is risk of genetic disorders. The same as how they control what dogs can be breed with each other to keep the line clean the same applies to people.

In more than half the states you can legally marry a first cousin, only 5 say you can marry but not conceive.

I have no clue at all where or why I heard the latest bit of information but apparently they are even saying that there is little to no risk of defects when cousins conceive and the risk even with brother/sister is less than they initially thought.

In regards to morals thought I don't think it is as cut and dry as you are making it.

Are we talking about you are 20 when your dad remarries a women with a 10 year old daughter where you all lived together and you grew up like brother/sister then start dating when she is 18? OR are you both 25 live in different states and never lived under the same roof, you have only met twice before and the hook up occurred at a random work conference you both happened to be attending? In both your legal relation is the same but the actual relationship is entirely different, this completely changes the situation morally.

My parents are very happily married so this would never happen.

Most likely, many of them did. Well i've seen this happen before. Girl A is dating Boy B. They have been together for 1 year and decide to invite their parents so they can meet one another. Parent A decides they like Parent B, they begin to start dating. 1 Year later Parent A decides to marry Parent B, while Girl A is still Dating Boy B. How does that affect your morality dumpster?

I personally wouldn't ever think about getting with a relative. Even if it's not a blood relative. If I was dating girl A who's mom hit it off with my dad after meeting I would tell my dad to step off. And he would. Haha
