okay, i was considering just doing doing a down pipe, ecu and i already have an intake. do you think that would put too much stress on it?

not so much.

u don't need down pipe for stage 1, but u do for stage 2. stage 2 causes more issues than stage 1 such as coil packs, boost leaks, o2 sensor replacement etc. stage 2 is basically gives a much better power band. i hear people running ko4's on older mk4's at 140,000 miles which is stagerring for me. but the maintenance will be more consistent than stock like oil change every 5k, coil packs (even plugs every 40k)

Question: Just purchased an AEM Stage 2 Water Meth Kit and since I'm planning a BT build I'm now looking at an intercooler for my GTi. However, I was thinking of not going to a direct fit application intercooler and am looking more along the lines of Mishimoto or Precision intercoolers. Both are proven and provide brilliant bang for buck, and installation is easy peasy for someone who knows what they are doing (Not me)

Any takers as to why I should just stick to the expensive offerings of Forge CTS and THS?

@Hoosier the only reason to go with Forge, CTS, THS or Neuspeed is because they supply the silicon hosing and pipes plus a mount that fits without too much fabrication. The generic ICs from Mishimoto and Precision require you to source custom silicon hoses and tubing and fab a solution. If you have to pay a shop to do a custom install you may find it costs a similar amount as to a plug and play IC from the big players.

Newbie question:

I am installing the VW lowering springs (~1") as well as 15mm wheel spacers. The shop who is installing these for me warned about axle vibration (I believe?) and to research/check with other owners who have done the same.

Volkswagen Sport Springs:

ECS Wheel Spacer & Bolt Kit - 15mm With Ball Seat Bolts:

Any help appreciated.

First, I'd try to use a shop that specializes in tuning VW. Maybe ask around in your regional section here:

Also, since this is suspension specific maybe ask here:

I just installed these on my 13 GTI with Laguna wheels and they are a perfect fit for me. Definitely gave me the look I was looking for, I also went with the 10.5mm in the front. Definitely get the longer bolts for a proper hold. Ive had zero vibrations with these.

such a great thread. I find myself keep going back and read this along every step of my build.

It looks like one of your spring is flipped and put on upside down.

Hey guys, last weekend I installed the unitronic intake. Crazy sounds but I did notice during wide open throttle at 4k+ rpms it makes an awful whining noise.

So I've been told it does this due to the diverter valve.

Those who have had this issue what have you done to remedy it?

GFB DV+ solved the issue for me.
