The Random / "Stupid" Questions Thread

Short of having the engine rebuilt, I doubt there is anything you can do other than to just add oil. Some cars have higher oil consumption than others. If the car runs fine and still has lots of power just keep an eye on the oil level and add as necessary. There is not necessarily anything to repair, but I do agree that you shouldn't be letting the oil light come on. By the time that light comes on you are quite low on oil

The light comes on at any time it could be 3 months or 3 week all depending on how I drive and how many miles I do, for the foreseeable I will just keep adding oil when needed, thank you for the help fellas appreciate it

And you don't see any smoke out of the tail pipes?

Minor smoke, little but nothing major I’d taken it to a turbo specialist as I thought that was the problem but they have told me everything is fine, the minor smoke is moisture in the exhaust from the cold weather I was told

Has anyone attempted to replace the fog lights for a GTI without removing the bumper?
I was checking out a video recently on YT on the procedure for replacing the fogs since mine are old and full of moisture/buildup, and one of the commenters mentioned that bumper removal wasn't necessary. I was thinking maybe they just removing the wheel well shroud from the front and pulled them out that way. My front bumper has been off enough that it looks a bit funky and I didn't wanna cause more trauma to the clips if I didn't have to. Would be cool if someone had a solid how-to or general idea if this is legit.

I don't think you can.......I recently had the lense of my right-side fog smashed, I got a new light assembly but took the bumper off to do it. It's a pain getting those clips and the bumper re-aligned but I think it's the only way.

I heard removal of the wheel well gives just enough clearance to get the screws out. At some point I'll give it a shot

Anyone got any idea what might cause poor gas mileage, low power and midrange misfires? Ever since I installed my K04 my car feels slower, my mileage is way down and I get a strange hesitation/misfire around 3k RPM with high loads (but no CEL)

Spark plugs are new and gapped at 0.24, running Shell 91 octane.

Edit: Of course right after I post, I find it. Intake was loose at the compressor inlet and rubbing on the brake reservoir. When the engine rocked with torque it would lift the intake off the compressor inlet partially, lots of unmetered air. Tightened it up, took it for a spin and now it's got good power and my mileage is way up.
